What is a Double X Geek
Double X refers to XX, two X chromosomes. Who has two X chromosomes? Women of course!
Geek has had a lot of meanings over the years, most of them not very polite. These days people proclaim their geekhood proudly! A geek is anyone with an interest or passion for a topic outside the norm, generally relating to modern technology but not always. Video game geeks, movie geeks, craft geeks, these all find comfort under the geek banner.
Who is Double X Geeks
That would be me! I'm Jennifer, but go by Gwen online generally. I'm a Website Admin student, but have also completed part of a Biology degree, and part of an X-ray Tech program. I have severe ADHD, which makes life interesting and frustrating all at once. I love to craft, write, and I run several websites. I'm also obsessed with astronomy and would love to someday do astrophysics!
What is DoubleXGeeks about
It's primarily about Double X Geeks, or women in geekhood. Why is this topic even relevent anymore? We’ve come a long way, and now you can find females in every career, doing every geeky thing imaginable, so what’s left? The fact is that we’re still horribly out numbered most of the time, and we are still alienated by both our own gender, and by male geeks as well for our interests.
Being a geek does not mean you lose all interest in traditionally female things either. I love crafting, kittens and babies. I also love RAM, firefly and pwning n00bs. I also like to dress up and wear makeup sometimes.
Basically, this blog addresses things that are of particular interest to female geeks. I share tips on cosplaying, con safety, and how to be a geek in everyday life. But this is certainly not a girls only club! A good chunk of my posts interest geeks of all shapes, sizes, and chromosomal value.
